The 2009 Assessment Specifications for Classical Studies and Latin are available on the NZQA web site. Changes have been made for both Latin and Classical Studies at all levels. Follow this link for Classical Studies exemplars. Latin exemplars are expected to be available on-line this month.
MoE has extended the timeline for implementation of aligned Level 1 standards to 2011. This will allow time for wider consultation and ensure changes are supported by resources. Levels 2 and 3 will be rolled out in 2012 and 2013 respectively. The matrix for Latin standards has been approved for consultation by NZQA and MoE.
Draft guidelines for Latin are in the final stage of development and should be available for comment and adjustment, according to the latest report from MoE by the end of last year. When more information becomes available this notice will be updated. Classical Studies guidelines are currently in development. Members will be notified when these are available for consultation.
NZACT subscriptions are due for 2009. To qualify for the discounted conference fee, subscriptions must be received by March 31st. Subscriptions are $45 ($20 for students / retired). Please send completed forms and payment to the NZACT Treasurer (see Contact Us).
The password for the members' area of the NZACT website is only available to members of the association. The password will be changed on Tuesday the 31st March 2009 and the new password will be sent out with the next President's newsletter. If you are having trouble accessing the members area of the site, please check first whether you have paid your NZACT subscription for 2009.
Please be advised that the text by Jonathan Campbell, Roman Art and Architecture from Augustus to Constantine is now out of print. Note also that the translation of Aristophanes' Wasps and Frogs translated by Barrett is now out of print and the new revised translation Frogs and other plays (by Shomit Dutta, 2007) will be the version used for the externally assessed standard 90511 from 2009.
The literary texts topic booklets for achievement standard 90116 are no longer available from the Education Plus Shop. These can now be ordered from the NZACT President (see Contact Us) for $10 per copy.
Robin Bond's 2005 production of Aristophanes' Frogs is available on commercial quality DVD. This is the production that a number of people attended as part of the 2005 NZACT conference events. The cost is $20 (cash or cash cheque) and it can be ordered through the Department of Classics, University of Canterbury, Private Bag 4800, Christchurch.
